Traditional Chinese Martial Arts

Traditional Chinese Martial Arts (TCMA) was evolved and tested over thousands of years through countless warfare and practical reasons. TCMA is one of the rare martial arts in the world that goes beyond just the physical combat aspect. It trains practitioners primarily in the minds to experience and understand the relationship among nature, universe, medicine, astrology, warfare strategy, philosophy, arts, and science with the body.

Our Ideology

At Wu Tan, we were very fortunate to inherit such a pure lineage of kung fu along with its ideology. Most importantly, we have a very organized and complete training and development methods. However, as mentioned above, TCMA evolved over history. It was never meant to be perfect or remain at its current stage at any given time. Our mission is to continue the legacy of this prestige lineage by fully preserving the arts and knowledge as well as ensuring "traditional" arts are enhanced during our time. However, we treat what we learned from our predecessors with the highest trust and respect. We wholeheartedly dedicate ourselves to learn and understand what had been passed down to us, and we expect our students to have the same attitude towards the arts as well. It is only when we thoroughly learn and understand the skills that we can then improve upon them.

Our core training ideologies are:

01.scientific

We train with the traditional methods, but we identify the reasoning and purpose behind the means. We then seek to implement modern physical science to enhance the results.

02.influential

We do not train soldiers or cage-fighting gladiators. We train leaders and generals who can take this ancient knowledge and effectively apply it to their daily lives, and in turn, positively affect the people and society around them.

03.Wellness

The journey of martial arts is a life-long one. We train with a balanced mindset of combat and wellness. We want every individual who learns this art to still be able to practice this art in his or her 80s.

04.effective

We believe that forms are documentation of experience and knowledge from our predecessors. But, we also believe that only by extracting individual moves out of the forms and training upon them is the effective way to learn.

“The difference between Chinese martial arts and modern sports is that one nourishes the body and the other exhausts.”
